On Thursday, July 2nd there will be a "Protest Picnic" against the redundancies at the Chancellor's Lake between 1 and 2pm. If it rains, we will debark to G63 but either way, please come along and show how hard we will fight these attacks on jobs and services.
Aston University Council meets tomorrow and it is imperative we let them know why compulsory redundancies should NOT be happening at Aston.
Please join our rally at 1.00 outside the Main Building entrance (the main one by the sky lifts). The more people who attend, the more difficult it will be to ignore our requests, which are simple and reasonable:
(1) tell us the real reasons for the proposed cuts;
(2) at the very least, offer voluntary redundancies instead of forced redundancies and have a phased restructuring;
Come to the meeting in G11 to find out about the joint action the UNITE and UCU unions are taking to combat the threat of redundancies at Aston University.
Aston UCU has called a general meeting to discuss the current threat to jobs that members are facing. We need all members' support to develop an action plan for challenging compulsory redundancies in all departments and schools. We also need to hear from members about any other threats to their working conditions that members are facing across Aston.
Abortion Rights has called for a protest to oppose the anti-choice March for Life, in Birmingham on Sat May 16th. The protest will take place in Chamberlain Square, starting at 2pm.
March for Life is a consortium of anti-choice groups who have a shared legacy of using tactics of intimidation and harassment. The group target vulnerable women outside clinics and are now planning to march through Birmingham.
The Aston UCU branch AGM will be held on January 27th at 1.00 pm in MB161. We will announce the venue later but please keep the date and time free so that you can attend. We need your participation, both as branch members and as representatives, because the new year may be a challenging one.
The monthly meeting of the Aston UCU Committee will have a particular focus on the USS pensions dispute and the industrial action starting on November 6th.
Chris Mason is the Pension Support Official at the National UCU Office and will be speaking at Aston to UCU members.
Please make every effort to attend so that you are fully aware of the seriousness of the proposed USS changes.
Don't forget to cast your vote on the pay ballot. The deadline is May 1st and it is extremely important that the union knows the wishes of its membership.
The Annual General Meeting of the Aston UCU Branch will be at 1.00 in Room MB161. All branch positions will be up for election and we will be looking for people to join the committee.
