There appears to be no movement from the employers on the USS pensions changes despite the support of the NUS for UCU staff and also the unhappiness of many VCs with the intransigence of the employers. So it looks like we are heading for the strikes and we need to make them as effective as we possibly can. There is no point doing it half heartedly because it just hurts us: we have to go all out for maximum disruption. We understand that this is painful and not what staff want to do but the employers have left us with no option: it is a tough enough job already without having little reward when we retire, which will detrimentally affect the quality of staff universities can attract. In short, the students are under attack by the pension changes and will suffer from them irrespective of any strike action.
The national UCU website has some Frequently asked questions where you can find more information and we will continue to post local news here.
