Higher Education White Paper

Thanks to everyone who made time to attend the AGM today. One issue that was raised was the need to campaign against the Higher Education White Paper. UCU has been engaged in this campaign through our political lobbying and policy work. Below are links to some key documents and initiatives.

Please consider:

- writing a letter to your MP and the press about the threat to higher education
- asking your MP to sign the EDM

The Annual General Meeting for the UCU will be at 1.00 on November 15th in MB108.

It is imperative you make an effort to attend the AGM because we are about to enter extremely uncertain and potentially very turbulent times. The impact of the Government White Paper on fees and student numbers is not at some abstract national level; it will be felt right here with us in Aston. There are bound to be issues affecting working conditions and we must ensure that the collective interests of Aston staff are effectively pursued. We cannot do this without your support and every one of us should contribute to and maintain that support.

The Jarrow march for education and jobs

On November the 5th, the Jarrow Marchers will arrive in London.
They will have marched 330 miles from the North East, demanding jobs,
education and a decent future. There will be a mass rally in central
London to greet them.  Birmingham City University Students’
Union have kindly offered to allow UCU members to book seats on their coach – details follow.
