Potential changes to the USS pension scheme and what we can do about them

The Aston UCU branch, along with other branches across the university sector, is being asked to vote on whether or not to take action in defence of our pensions. We have suffered a reduction in the real value of our salaries over the last few years and now we are being threatened with a reduction in our standard of living after we have retired.

USS PENSIONS

Thank you for your comments on the proposed USS pension changes. You will have seen how important and potentially controversial they are and it is vital we take an active role in shaping the eventual solution. An interesting and informative article in the Times Higher can be read here:

New CORE Human Resources IT System at Aston

You will already know that there is a new Human Resources IT system for your pay and other employee details. Part of this will include recording your annual leave and your UCU representatives are about to enter discussions with management about the procedures. We will keep you posted and will be looking for your feedback on any issues of concern.

National Executive Committee election

Don't forget to read the manifestos of the three candidates for a vacancy on the NEC and vote. It is important that your views are heard both locally and nationally, so make your vote count.

Important developments on the USS pension scheme

You will know that the USS pension scheme has been under negotiation for some time now and the UCU has been working hard to maintain benefits in difficult circumstances. A national meeting has been called for September 18th and the UCC would like branches to feed views into it. A briefing document is attached to this news item and we would be very grateful for your responses by Monday 14th September so that we can collate them in time. An email has been sent out to all members and you can reply to that with your comments.
